Representatives of Russia and Slovenia on February the 23rd laid wreaths to the monument of Russian soldiers in Ljubljana

he Embassy of Russia in Slovenia in Ljubljana on 23^rd February, the Day of the Defender of Fatherland, organized a wreath laying ceremony at the monument of the Sons of Russia and the Soviet Union, who died on Slovenian soil during the First and Second World Wars. The wreath was also given by Danilo Durakovich who is the Honorary Consul of the Russian Federation in Slovenia and the President of Comita Group of Companies.

The event was attended by the Russian Ambassador in Slovenia Doku Zavgaev, the Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Jankovic, the honorary consuls of Russia in Slovenia, the members of the Slovenia-Russia Friendship Society,the leaders and members of veteran and public organizations, the Russian-Slovenian Business Council and other business associations, companies actively participating in the development of bilateral cooperation, the delegations of Russian organizations that visited Slovenia these days, journalists.

Addressing the assembles, D. Zavgayev noted that “the participation of Slovenian friends in a solemn event dedicated to the Russian festival, once again demonstrated the sincere desire of our countries to consolidate and strengthen the multifaceted and mutually beneficial cooperation”.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on July the 30^th , 2016, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor visited Slovenia as a working visit, during which he attended a memorial ceremony on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the construction of the Russian Chapel at the Vršić Pass in memory of Russian soldiers who died in these places during the First World War. Later, in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana, V. Putin and B. Pahor opened a monument to Russian and Soviet soldiers who died in the territory of Slovenia in the First and Second World Wars. The monument was created by a team of Russian sculptors and artists with the assistance of the Russian Military Historical Society. The City Mayor’s Office of the Slovenian capital gratuitously allocated a plot of land to the memorial park, and after the opening took the monument to the own budget and now takes care for it and ensures its safety.
